You don’t need to buy an expensive guitar!!! Here’s how we made our $100 guitar sound like a million bucks.
- First we ordered an Indio guitar (or any guitar for about $100) from Amazon. We set a $150 budget for this project and this guitar checked that box and left $50 to work with.
- We got the guitar in and with the remaining $50 ordered a loaded pickguard (This means a pickguard with the electronics in it already), tuning pegs, and good strings.
- You then need to completely disassemble the guitar
- Straighten the guitar neck (There are videos on Youtube showing how to do this)
- Then we level, crown, and polish the frets. It is imperative that you straighten the neck before doing anything else to it because if you level frets before you straighten the neck, you have done nothing
- Change the tuning pegs
- Change the pickguard. Pull the old pickguard with electronics then install new loaded one
- Put the neck back on the body
- Put on the new strings
- Once the new strings were on, tune it and let it sit for 24 hours so that the neck adjusts to the new string tension
- Once that is done, retune the guitar and recheck that the neck is straight.
- All this being completed, it is now time to intonate the guitar.
- There are several good videos online showing the proper way to intonate your guitar.
- Now that you’ve intonated your guitar, it’s time to set the pickup height.
- Pickup height should be set low enough so that the strings do not touch the magnets, but high enough so that the sound is clear and sharp.
- Now that you have done all of these things, it is time to plug your guitar in and play like a rockstar!!!!
